Sedgwick Residence

Located in Lincoln Park, the Sedgwick Residence was brought back to life after years of neglect. Originally built as a pair of homes with ground floor rental units or professional offices, the building was converted into a single-family home and the front façade was changed to accommodate one front entry and a metal stairway, severely altering the original Italianate details of the home. The building was in the process of being completely renovated when it was abandoned mid-construction in 2015.

Once our client bought the building, the goal of the project was to restore and renovate the home to bring it up to modern standards while restoring its street façade to its former glory. A centered wood stair with a covered porch was put in to recreate its original entries, based on clues left behind in the brick work. The front windows were restored from mid-century fixed glass panel windows to the original double hung windows configuration.

The interiors for the building were kept simple and elegant, appealing to today’s timeless modern lifestyle. This 6 bedroom, 5 ½ bathroom home is detailed with traditional elements such as the crown molding and baseboard to tie the rooms of the home together. The main color palette of the home was kept neutral allowing unique elements within each room to pop and express the homeowners unique style and personality.
